A business is born
- Harry’s Printers started with humble beginnings by the late Mohan L. Harry over 40 years ago
- The Harry family owned a shoe repair business when Mohan discovered printing and developed a passion for it
- Mohan’s father, Laloo Harry had begun a career of writing Indian philosophical books and commentary on the Hindu scriptures
- Mohan realised that printing was the ideal way for his father’s work to be shared with the world
- The business was thus formalized and Mr Harry bought his first hand-printer and began L. Harry and Sons at 101 St. Georges Road, Southernwood

The expansion
- The business grew rapidly and relocated to 18 Kimberley Road
- Vrij Harry, the current MD of the company, joined the business in 1973 after completing his B.Comm degree at Durban Westville
- He took full reign of the business after his father decided to retire in 1981
- The business grew from strength to strength under Vrij’s leadership
- In 1985, Vrij was chosen as the Marketing Man of the year by the I.M.M. and later invited to visit the USA on an African Leaders programme by the US Government
Rising from the ashes
- In 1989 disaster struck the factory when a fire destroyed the plant
- It was a painful and very difficult time for the firm
- With the help of many good wishes and dedicated staff, the business was up and running within 48 hours from the Harry’s residence
- The firm still managed to take on new challenges with the takeover of 2 existing printing companies in East London during the fire crises
- After the fire, the plant was re-built and the company continued to grow rapidly with branches opening up in Pretoria and Port Elizabeth
A new era for Harry’s
- In 2005 Harry’s moved to its current location at 14 Kimberley Road after much reconstruction
- The new premises has seen our business being better equipped than ever before to provide our clients with an even greater service
Harry’s continues to grow to greater heights, always striving to take the printing and communications industry to another level – with the addition of stationery divisions, digital printing, facilities management, publishing, photo products and the IT sector.
